My first weekend back in Detroit was decent, to say the least. 💙💙
Thanks @mtvu for sharing my story with #blackoncampus
I'm still on a high from last weekend. I met a dynamic group of black student journalists and we talked as if we had known each other for years. I toured, ate, and turnt up at @mharrisperry 's home. I connected with activists at the #knowhertruths conference. More importantly, this trip gave me the confidence that I needed. I learned so much about myself and what I need to work on. Thank you, MHP and Dr. Williams for organizing this trip and reminding this black girl that her voice is important. #blackoncampus
Some news ( because I'm still shocked):
I have been accepted into the #BlackonCampus program! Not only will I be mentored by my idol, Melissa Harris-Perry, but I will be get to go to NC and NYC and collaborate with The Nation on issues and trends affecting black college students. Attending a PWI, where blackness isn't always validated, has been difficult, but as an emerging journalist, I've made it a goal of mine to continue telling the stories of POC. This program leads me one step closer to that dream!
Falling in love with myself ❤
"Tell her about the blog post you wrote about her and what #ctrl meant to you" was what I wanted to tell @sza when I met her over the weekend. My nerves got the best of me, but thanks SZA for being so sweet and making my first concert experience one to remember.
